At Wageningen University & Research, you will work (part-time) as Legal Counsel on legal issues that contribute to societal challenges in the field of education, research and business operations. Because one of our lawyers has taken the next step within WUR, we are looking for a new colleague. Within the Corporate Legal team , you will be a legal advisor on a wide range of private law issues, including cooperation agreements, intellectual property and corporate law issues.
What will you do as a Legal Counsel?
- You advise various staff departments, with a focus on private law, and draw up contracts for (subsidised) collaborations;
- You will support the Co-creating Value & Impact department with legal advice on corporate law and intellectual property law, in particular on spin-offs, shareholder agreements, licenses and patent transfers.
- You develop and implement policy, such as the patent regulations and spin-off policy, and ensure compliance within the organisation;
- You will contribute to the development and updating of legal templates in collaboration with fellow lawyers;
- You advise the board of directors on real estate issues;
- You handle a variety of legal issues, including disputes and Woo requests, based on your expertise and development needs.
The Corporate Governance & Legal Services department consists of twenty employees, including a team of nine lawyers, a paralegal and three privacy officers. The legal policy for the entire organisation is designed here, in consultation with the lawyers in the science groups. In addition, the lawyers act as sparring partners for the Executive Board, corporate staff directors and other organisational units of WUR, such as the Facilities and Services department.
The CG&LS department's field of activity is broad with focus areas such as: governance, compliance, value creation, internationalisation, scientific integrity, employee participation, education, privacy and disputes. The private law questions are handled by four lawyers.

Wageningen University & Research is an enterprising organisation. For this legal team, this means that there are always new challenges and development opportunities. The CG&LS team is your home base. Here you spar on content with the other lawyers and the tasks are divided.
You will mainly work together with employees from other departments within Wageningen University & Research. This is done in multidisciplinary teams. For you, this means collaboration with colleagues from the corporate staff departments, including the Co-creating Value & Impact department, the lawyers and project leaders in WUR's science groups.
Your qualities
We are looking for a pragmatic lawyer who knows how to get things done and wants to contribute to the complex legal issues of WUR together with us. Someone who likes to work together and thinks in terms of solutions.
Your qualities are the following:
- You have completed a university degree in Dutch law;
- You have knowledge of and at least five years of experience in private law, with an emphasis on contract law, intellectual property and corporate law;
- You have a proactive and service-oriented work attitude and a sense of administrative relationships. You can work well together, present and include people in your advice;
- You have good analytical skills, you are able to formulate useful and clear advice. You like dynamics and can keep a good overview;
- You have a command of Dutch and English in word and writing.
